Let me start off by saying that wearing these jeans on a day where the weather was like -100 degrees, was a horrible idea. I do it for the fashion and I’m sure many of you can relate..lol (especially my fellow Toronto/NYC bloggers).
Lately, I’ve been liking the idea of wearing oversized layers, and it helps when the weather is extremely cold. It’s fun to mix up patterns, fabrics and textures to create a look with depth. I’ve worn this tank and sweater combo before, with leather leggings, but this time I wanted a more grunge/loose/casual style. And what bottoms came to mind? BOYFRIEND JEANS.. DUH!! The bagginess of the jeans and the size of the rips played into the style I was going for. I had to throw on a hat or else I think my head was going to freeze off so I hope you like my ‘salt and pepper’ matching.. ha..ha…
Lately, all I’ve been wanting to wear is basic tees, leather leggings, skinny jeans, long cardigan and layered outfits. It may have something to do with the fact that it is freezing outside and I have to admit, it’s hard to put outfits together in the winter. If it’s icy outside, you have to wear shoes that won’t slip or get ruined by the salt and you have to cover every inch of your skin so you don’t get frostbite. Needless to say, winter sucks sometimes!
When getting dressed in the morning, I realized that I don’t really have the basics that I need. I’ve been looking online for what I want and I thought I would share with you guys some winter basics to have if you live in a cold climate, like me. Of course, make these basics your own style and choose colours you love, shapes that suit your body and layer how you like.

I think I am starting to become a believer in the ‘casual Friday’ phenomenon that has hit the world by storm for the past however many years. Especially since I start my day at 7am and don’t get home until late afternoon, making me want to dress comfy and casual. So I’m saying to myself “Wow Lilly, you are such a hypocrite for saying this” and “Are you sure you want to do this?”. I always wanted to think that there shouldn’t be one day out of the week where you ditch your style instincts and basically wear your PJ’s out. Right?
I have always believed that you shouldn’t sacrifice style for comfort. Lets be real, sweatpants and a hoodie is not ‘your style’ and they will never be ‘a style’. These days, you can find fashion that screams your name and is still comfy, wow, what a world we live in! I wanted to show you some basic pieces you can style to create that ‘casual Friday’ vibe but still look put together and that you didn’t wake up 5 minutes before you had to leave (even if you did). The amazing thing about the items I chose is that you can mix and match them together. I hope you like this post and that it inspires your next casual Friday outfit! As always let me know what you think and visit my social media page to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
Here are a few ‘casual Friday’ outfit ideas:
- Vneck tee, black skinnys, sweater wrapped around waist, sneakers, watch
- Tank (bralette layered under), button-down (unbuttoned), cargo pants, timberlands, blanket scarf
- Sweater (button-down underneath), jogger pants, ankle boots, rings
- Vneck tee (tucked in), skirt, button-down wrapped around waist, converse
If you have seen my latest Current Obsession post, I am IN LOVE with cowl/turtle necks this season. They are so comfy and cozy for the lazy days and you can even dress them up over top of a mini skirt. Of course, I had to buy this one when I saw it, in multiple colours; pink and black. The black is the first colour I was set on, obv, but I wanted to change it up and try out a lighter colour, the pink is so feminine and classy.
I paired my sweater with ripped denim because I wanted the look to be very casual. Plus, the colour of the denim and the pink go so well together. Going along with the femininity of the sweater, I wore a red lip to finish the look.
I havn’t worn these boots in forever! And now I know why, my poor little toes get so squished. Sad face. I couldn’t help but wear them because the sparkles are just right for the holiday season and the ankle bootie looks great with cuffed jeans.

When I think of winter, I think of creamy whites, bright reds and shimmering golds. However, when I get dressed for the winter, I think of black. Every women has most likely gone through a stage where all she wore was black, I am still in that stage and have no desire to ever leave it. Let me know if you’re still in this stage as well!
Today, I had to run a few errands and wanted to wear something comfy, but definitely warm. Leather leggings are a staple this winter because they go with EVERYTHING! I mean everything. I wore my super comfy mohair sweater, in other words, my super comfy, fuzzy sweater. Recently, I have been liking the style of showing my socks off, I find it adds a cute touch to my outfits and layers are great for the colder months. If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen that I am loving my paisley scarf this season. I actually bought it around three years ago and I love that I can still rock it today. Shades of pink have been my favourite colour for winter (besides black) and I love that it adds a subtle pop of colour to my outfits.
Let me know what your favourite winter colour is this season in the comments.

PS: mind the quality on these pics 😦 I don’t know what was going on with my camera. I hate having to post pics with crappy quality but I was loving my outfit and wanted to share it with you all.

I said a couple posts ago that I wanted to start taking pics of my everyday outfits to post on my blog and here I am! An everyday outfit post on my blog. The weather was a lot warmer today (woop!) so I got to wear a lighter jacket and some sneakers. Sadly, the cold weather will be back with vengeance.
Yesterday at the mall, I was inspired by a few outfits I saw and wanted to create the styles I saw, but in my own way. Layers, layers are so popular for the colder seasons and it’s amazing what textures and colours can look good mixed and matched.
One more thing; one of my many fashion mottos: “You can never wear too much (faux) leather”.
(faux) Leather Jacket: Urban Planet
Lace-trimmed tank: Express
Backpack: Call it Spring
At first, I was so skeptic of these sweaters and thought they were ‘ugly’. This season, I have a new found love for them. They are SO comfy and can literally go with anything in your wardrobe. I’m glad they are back this Fall/Winter season so I can give them a second chance. I bought one at H&M over the weekend and I want to wear it everyday. Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to do that.
I have been seeing these sweaters pop up everywhere, H&M had a great price of $19.95 on the one I bought. I wasn’t able to take any pics of how I styled mine but there will FOR SURE be a post in the future featuring it, so subscribe to be the first to see new posts!
A couple ways to style them are: layered over top a flannel/button down, under your fav leather jacket, tucked into distressed denim or with that A-line skirt you have been dying to wear. The possibilities are endless since these sweaters come in so many different styles, shapes and colours.

Sweaters are a MUST-HAVE for the fall/winter season. Usually, sweaters are dressed down or dressed causal but they always have the potential to be dressed up. I thought I would show you guys how you can wear your fav knit sweater for a dressy/going out look.
Instead of just wearing a simple cami or tee underneath my sweater, I wore a cami with a lace insert, it adds a lot more femininity and chic-ness (is that a word?) that dresses up the sweater. I, of course, added a bib-style necklace (current obsession) to complete the look.
This is my first time wearing these sling-backs and I already have blisters, my poor toes. Beauty is pain though, amiright?
Leather (faux) leggings are definitely a piece you can also dress down/dress up, they completed the look I was going for because of the shine. I wore simple pair of heels because I wanted the top half of my outfit to have most of the attention. The great thing about the sweater is that it’s not too thick, so on the colder days I can throw my jacket over top.
