SEPHORA VIB HAUL + REVIEW

Okay, so the semi-annual Sephora VIB sale has come and gone but the time has come to haul and review all the goodies. The Internet is overflowing with videos and posts about the sale so it’s only right I share my grabs. Share below what you just HAD to get!!

OUAI Matte Pomade … So I got bangs and needed a pomade to style them so they aren’t just a chunk of hair covering my forehead. This pomade is nice because its very thick and creates a wispy look while still staying matte.

Philosophy Purity … I will always purchase this during the sale because it’s a restock, BEST MAKEUP REMOVER EVER. Very gentle on the skin and eyes, you need to try this.

Bare Minerals Liquid Lip … I really never wear lipstick but I felt like this was necessary to buy because it’s a nice pinky/nude colour. It takes a while to dry down but I don’t mind, it looks good creamy. Colour is ‘Slay’.

First Aid Beauty Mask … Peel-off masks are very therapeutic and I needed a new one. My skin feels smooth and clean after and you don’t need to put on a thick layer so the bottle lasts longer, holla for the dolla.

Clinique Fresh Pressed … I heard some good reviews on this product for acne scarred skin so I figured I should buy it during the sale. Sooo, this little bottle is only supposed to last for 7 days and you mix it with your moisturizer am and pm. I haven’t noticed a difference really but we shall see, results take time!

Beauty Blender Cleaner … I am a bad reviewer because I actually haven’t tried this product yet but I am just going to assume that it works well because my current method of cleaning my beauty blender is not working well (current method consists of squeezing the baby soap filled sponge until it looks clean).

NARS Primer … I’m waiting to run out of my current primer to start using this, but just by swatching it feels like it will even out skin texture and fill in pores while creating a good base for makeup, stay tuned.

Fresh Lip Balm … This was completely and utterly an impulse buy because I was watching MannyMUA’s snapchat and he said that this was an amazing lip balm and that it smells good so there it is, I’m sold. It legit smells so good, like caramel popcorn mixed with a caramel swirl candle. Has a bit of a shine on the lips but so far so good in the moisturizing dpt. In case you’re wondering, it doesn’t taste like anything 😦

Series: 15 pieces..20 ways

Are ya’ll ready for this? I’m starting a series of 10 posts, about 15 key pieces to pack while traveling and 20 different outfits you can make from them. I bet you’ve seen the articles on Pinterest of ‘How to pack for 3 months in a carry on’ or ’10 pieces, 20 outfits’. They always intrigue me because I love packing and I love finding new ways to wear the clothes I have. This series will be my spin on these posts.

Let’s get the deets:

  • The most important detail is that this series is a part of my coursework for University in Scotland. I figured since I came here with only two suitcases, and had to pack minimally, it would be a great idea to share the different ways to wear what I packed.
  • The outfits will be for Fall weather (if you live in a colder climate), I’m living in Scotland right now which has similar weather to my home in Canada.
  • Each post will have 2 outfits featured in it (2 outfits x 10 posts=20 outfits… yay!) and the collage of the 15 pieces. I will be talking about why I paired these together and where you can wear them.
  • Accessories, bags and makeup are not included in the 15 key pieces because they are items that do not take up a lot of room in your suitcase and can be worn with every single outfit created

I hope you enjoy this series and are inspired to find new ways to wear your clothes, whether you’re travelling or at home. Thanks for reading and I’ll talk to you soon!

Everyday Makeup | College

Here in the UK, it is only the second week of school and I’ve noticed that I am a little lazier in the morning and am not spending as much time on makeup. Less time = less products. I definitely would rather sleep longer then wake up earlier to get ready for class and I’m sure a ton of you are with me on that #beautysleep. I wanted to share the products that I use for the days when I have early morning class or when I’m just going out to get some groceries or to the mall.

Basically, there are 7 steps to this routine and they are listed below! Click the links if you want to check out the product.

  1. As I’m writing this, I forgot the first initial step, woopsies. The real first step is primer, I’m currently using Benefit Porefessional or Smashbox primer water. They both help my makeup last longer but the porefessional helps my foundation go on smooth, especially around and on my nose, where my pores are the largest. Alright, so technically this is the second step but I’m mashing it up with primer. I like to have pretty full, but natural looking coverage. Rimmel Lasting Finish is great, it covers what I want but doesn’t look cakey. I LOVE the Real Technique buffing brush for foundation, definitely recommend buying this one.
  2. If you have 9am class, concealer is a MUST, because lets be real, I go to bed at like 2am and I gotta cover those bags.  Sephora gel serum concealer has great coverage and also highlights the under-eye area. The only downside is that product only comes on the tip of the brush and it’s hard to apply to the face. I like to blend my concealer out with a dampened beauty sponge because I never have luck blending it out with a brush. I’m trying out the Real Technique sponge right now so I’m going to say it’s just like other beauty sponges.
  3. Now to make sure those liquids stay in place all day. I usually set everything with Rimmel Stay Matte powder. I like to have a matte finish at first so I don’t get oily throughout the day. A large fluffy brush will do the trick to apply this.
  4. Time to add some definition to my face, ain’t nobody got time to contour before a 9am class so just bronzing up your face will look natural and add some shape. I use Rimmel sun shimmer bronzer on my cheekbones, hairline and jaw. If you want a more defined look, just focus more product on your upper cheekbone, closer to your ear. Using a more tapered fluffy brush works well to bronze up the face.
  5. Yes, highlight on fleek is still very present in my life. I just love that glow. I pick up my Zoeva luxe highlight brush and apply some Too Faced candlelight glow powder to the highpoints of my cheek, above my brows and on the bridge of my nose.
  6. Another way to shape your face is to fill in those brows. I do a couple swipes of Clinique Brow Mousse to get a natural look. In the morning, it takes too long to fill my brows in with powder, a mousse or gel is a great on-the-go option.
  7. Lastly, I apply a few coats of mascara. I ALWAYS curl my lashes before applying mascara or you won’t even be able to tell I have mascara on. I feel that mascara is very personal preference because everyone looks for something different. I do love the colour of Clinique Chubby Mascara in black honey.

Voila! That is the finished makeup look. It usually only takes around 15 minutes in the morning and then I’m good to go. Then, of course, I take like ten years deciding what to wear. I hope you liked this and share below what products you like on an everyday basis.

Travel Essentials

As you know, I’ve been travelling around Europe and the UK, during these travels I’ve learned what items I NEED to bring with me. Whether it’s on the plane, in my purse or in my checked luggage. I’m legit obsessed with reading blogs and watching videos on travel essentials or flight essentials, so I figured I would create my own version and share with you guys! There’s a mix of everything in here; fashion, beauty, toiletries and more. Hope you enjoy and find some new items to bring on your next adventure!

  1. Sunglasses have many purposes, the main purpose, of course, is to protect your eyes from UV rays. However, the more important purpose is to make you look good, duh. Everyone is obsessed with Quay sunglasses and for good reason, every single pair they have looks amazing. I picked up a pair from Topshop in London and took them everywhere with me. Another purpose is hide those jet lagged eyes/ dark circles, I gotchu girl.
  2. My camera also went everywhere with me, so now it’s well travelled with a lot of pics on it. We all have phone cameras but sometimes it’s worth it to bring along a good quality digital camera so you can take great pictures and videos.
  3. I usually put all of my makeup in my checked luggage and kept a few items in my carry on with me. Concealer was something I could use to touch up makeup throughout the day or to just add a little something to your face after your flight.
  4. Another essential makeup item is some brow gel, or in my case, brow mousse. I feel that even if you don’t have any makeup on, filling in your brows, even just a little, can make a world of difference. I’ve been using the Clinique brow mousse and it adds subtle colour and keeps your hair where you want it. The brush is also really small so the mousse only goes where your brows should be.
  5. Headphones are a 1000000% must-have on any trip. They can block out the snores of your family while at the hotel or you can have your own little jam session on the train. I personally use Beats and my iPhone headphones.
  6. I’ve been in love with the Smashbox primer water, it gives your face a boost of freshness before applying makeup. I think it’d even be great to use to freshen your face up after a long flight.
  7. Another staple, a leather jacket can be worn with every single piece of clothing you packed and it also keeps you warm. For most of my travels, I just wore a leather jacket around London (the coldest place) and even while in Paris and Germany, I hardly ever left without it.
  8. My new fav sneakers, the Adidas Originals. Not even kidding, I wore these every day and they are still in great shape. An added bonus, they are so comfortable and I didn’t have a problem matching them to my outfits.
  9. I discovered Carmex in Germany while in Urban Outfitters and thought I would try it out. My sister said she used it all the time, back in the day. Any chapstick you have will do the trick but this one leaves your lips feeling tingly and smooth.
  10. For this item, a memory foam or beaded neck pillow is the best option. I made the mistake of buying a blow-up neck pillow and I wish I didn’t buy it. It was annoying to have to blow up, although it saved me space in my hand luggage, I will definitely be buying a foam one for the trip back home in December.
  11. Rollerball perfumes are the best thing to bring on any short or long vacation, they add just the perfect amount of scent and you don’t have to worry about it breaking in your luggage. My favourite perfume at the moment is the Nirvana by Elizabeth and James. However, since I am staying in Scotland for a few months, I brought the full size as well.
  12. One very important snack to bring on a plane is gum. I sometimes try and pretend my ears don’t feel like they’re going to explode while descending but man, I need that gum. Besides being your ears best friends, you can also freshen up your breath and have a clean feeling mouth.

Friday Favs + Mini Review #shapematters

So, this week’s Friday favourites is just going to be one product but I swear to god this product is so amazing it takes the place of like 5 other products you have in your makeup collection. If you don’t know, I’ve started to get more into beauty and makeup products and I want to bring that into my blog. Much like fashion and clothing, makeup is a way of having fun and trying new things. It’s not about disguising yourself or trying to be something you’re not. It’s about doing what makes you happy and feel good! Enough rambling and let’s get to the good stuff.

IMG_5061

This week I’m talking about the new Smashbox #ShapeMatters palette. If you follow me on Instagram (which you should) then you have seen a couple posts where I rave about how amazing this product is. This product contains 2 eyebrow powders and a wax, 4 contour and highlight shades and 9 eyeshadow shades, oh and a double ended brush for the eyebrows and eyeshadows. This palette is honestly so multi-purpose, it’s amazing. Every single colour in this palette is amazing and can be used for day or night makeup looks. The colours have great pigmentation and they blend very easily. I’ve been using this palette like every single day since I’ve bought it and the colours last so long on the skin. The palette is $69.00 on Sephora.com and it is SO worth the price. I’ve been wanting to buy the contour palette and sticks from Smashbox but have held off since they are a little pricey. So as soon as I heard about this palette, it was a no brainer that I needed it.

Now we’re getting to the real good stuff; swatches and pictures.

Left to right, top to bottom:

[BROW] eyebrow wax, taupe and soft brown

[FACE] contour, bronze, highlight and glow

[EYE] vanilla, totally nude, champagne, stripped, posh, platinum, sumatra, aubergine, blackout

I’ve been loving wearing ‘GLOW’ as a highlight and ‘HIGHLIGHT’ to set my under eye concealer. Oh the irony. I use ‘CONTOUR’ everyday to, you guessed it, contour. It gives a really natural looking structure to the face, unlike some other powders that look to orange or unnatural. I haven’t gotten around to using the darker eyeshadow shades but I have used almost all the lighter ones and I love them all.

If you haven’t gotten the hint already then what I’m trying to say is that you need this palette. Even if you’re a beginner to the makeup world (I still consider myself one), this is a great multi-purpose palette to get you started. If you are usually unsure about buying palettes because of the price or maybe you won’t use a couple shades, like myself, this palette will seriously amaze you and it is definitely worth the price. For me, I took into consideration that I wanted to buy the trio contour sticks from Smashbox and those alone are $52, this palette was only $17 more and I got 1 more contour shade, 9 eyeshadows, a brush and 3 eyebrow products. If that’s not a great value, I don’t know what is.

Happy Friday!!

Friday Favs

I’m back with some more favs!! Once again, I’m mixing some beauty products and fashion. TGIF!
IMG_4779 As I said in my last Friday Favs, I don’t wear a lot of jewelry at once so small and dainty pieces are what I gravitate towards. These small cuffs are legit my favourite thing ever, atm. I already had the white arrow one then Express came out with the sapphire blue arrow and then the pink hexagon one. They look so cool layered together on my arm. Click on over to my Instagram to see the look.

 IMG_4780

There is nothing more I can say about this 3-in-1 cleanser then IT IS AMAZING. If you’re looking for a cleanser and makeup remover then I highly recommend this one from Philosophy. It doesn’t dry out your skin, it leaves it so clean and smooth. I use it as part of my night time skincare routine to get all the gunk off my face.

 IMG_4784

My oh my, I have been wanting to try this brush for so long and I finally got it last week. I have no clue why I waited so long because it works magic when applying foundation. It’s the buffing brush by Real Techniques.

 IMG_4789

During the past week I’ve been wanting to wear this flannel every day. When I’m getting dressed I have to remind myself that I’ve already worn it. The pattern is not too loud so it really does go with everything. This one is from Express.
