MUST READ BOOKS

Need some inspiration? Motivation? Advice? A guiding spirit? Well, I have rounded up a short list of  books that YOU. HAVE. TO. READ. There are so many female power players and the fact they were able to write a book and share their experiences, failures, successes with us, it is just amazing #girlpower. Let’s face it, we all go through some similar situations in life; what major should I take in College? When am I going to find Mr/Ms Right? Will I have kids? How can I become CEO by age 30? Why don’t my peers respect me? How can I dress for success but still look fashionable? The following books have almost been like a friend to me, helping me out in life and guiding me through some difficult times.

#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

Um, I’m not sure what to say if you haven’t read this yet besides YOU HAVE TO. A classic story of a girl who went from literally nothing to a whole lot of something. A truly inspiring tale that will bring out your inner girlboss.

Leave your Mark by Aliza Licht

This can be one of your many trusted guides to getting through the phases of life. Get insider tips on how to leave your mark no matter what your passion is. From how to nail your first big interview to how to rock social media, this book is there for you.

The Big Life by Ann Shoket

Ahh, this is another trusted guide for your life! Literally anything that could possibly happen in your life where you need some guidance, this book is right there with answers, or at least it helps you find the answers. Anne helped so many young women through a crucial point in their lives, so she really gets what is happening and how to help. She wants to the world to be filled with badass babes and will help you build your big life. Ann chatted with so many different women for this book which makes it so relatable and inspiring.

Capture your Style by Aimee Song

Wow, I thought I knew quite a bit about keeping a strong Instagram game until I read this book. This book taught me so much about taking a killer photo and gaining a following based on what I’m really passionate about. Aimee is practically the queen of our feeds, every photo she takes tells a story and now she shares with us how to do it ourselves.

Let me know what your fav books are and if you have read any of the ones above. I have quite a few more books on the go, you know just trying to figure out my life and these books are helping… so stay tuned for another round up of must read books in the future.

NEW BEAUTY + SKINCARE!

Wow, how long has it been? WAY TOO LONG!! I’m happy to be back writing blog posts and posting more content on Instagram and Facebook. So some news, I have officially graduated with my bachelors degree in fashion management and this is why I have so much extra time on my hands, lol. I hope you enjoy this mini haul / review on my new products.

As an avid stalker on social media I have been so intrigued by Jen Atkin’s line of hair care, so after buying and loving the wave spray I wanted to try the Dry Shampoo Foam. My hair is pretty thick so I usually only use dry shampoo on the third day and it soaks up the excess oil on my roots and gives some volume to my flat, third day hair.

These two lil guys are my most recent purchases. Still awaiting to see if they have a long term impact on my skin but the Glow Tonic smells great and leaves my skin feeling very clean and refreshed. The Saje Zap spot treatment is good for my bigger pimples and the scent of essential oils is very calming.

This face mask…well it’s just great, enough said haha. The flash illuminator is also great, I use it under my makeup to create a ‘glow from within’. image3

THIS MOISTURIZER IS THE BOMB. My skin legit looks like it just drank five bottles of water, it looks so healthy and glowy I love it. image4

I’ve been using this cleanser with my Clarisonic as recommended by the woman at Sephora and it leaves my skin very clean, exfoliated and smooth. image5

SHOEBOX PARTY!

December 1st means it’s the time where we all say ‘Oh shite!! I better start my Christmas shopping’. I make lists on top of lists of gift ideas to buy for friends and family, yet every time I go to the mall, I seem to only think of what to buy for myself. I better not be the only one who does this!! Lol. It is so easy to be selfish but it is even easier to think of others this Holiday season. I wanted to make this season more about giving and less about the getting. I hosted a Shoebox party last weekend with some friends and family, and I know what you’re thinking ‘WTH is a shoebox party?’. No, it is not a party where we drink and dance with shoeboxes. It is a party where you fill up shoeboxes with goodies for homeless or risk of homelessness women. Since I live in Toronto, these shoeboxes will benefit women in the GTA. Thank you to my friends and family who helped out and donated!! We were able to make 12 boxes.

The Shoebox Project

We all spend so much over the holidays and some people get absolutely nothing. It takes less then $50 to help out others who are less fortunate then us. I hope this inspires you to find a local charity and give to others this holiday season. Other then the Shoebox Project, you can sponsor a family for Christmas who cannot afford gifts for their children, or hand out Timmy’s gift cards and mittens to men and women on the street. Whatever it is, YOU can make a difference this Holiday Season.

Merry December!

My Hangover Guide

As a twenty something living near the big city (Toronto), going out to bars is a part of my lifestyle. At no one’s fault besides my own,  I occasionally may drink one more rum and coke or tallboy then intended. We all know what that means, hangover city: population, me. I wanted to share my hangover guide and things I actually do the morning after. However, the first tip is something you can do the night before to wake up feeling a little less like an alcohol sponge, and more like a human being.

THE NIGHT BEFORE

-take ibuprofen and drink at least 2 glasses of water

-this tip may not help your pounding headache or weak stomach but at least your skin will feel great in the morning, which can help you feel great, apply this Clinique overnight mask, after taking your makeup off, to feel hydrated in the AM

SLEEP AS LONG AS YOU CAN

-sleep is probably most important after a wild night out, my advice is to stay in bed until 2pm and then start to move

-check out Casper’s Pinterest page to get some bed inspo that will make you want to stay in bed all day long (check out their mattresses to learn more)

DRINK WATER

-forget 8 glasses a day, try 20 glasses when you’re hungover

-sports drinks, like gatorade or powerade can also work wonders

WASH YOUR FACE / HAVE A SHOWER

-nothing feels better then having a hot shower and washing the thought of drinking away

-freshen up by going through your morning skin care routine (cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize), I guarantee you will be at least a little bit better

-if you are heading out for the day and are wearing makeup, prime your face with Too Faced Hangover primer to cure your skin hangover

EAT ANYTHING

-by anything I mean anything, even that leftover pizza you ordered at 2am, there is no shame, getting any food into your system will help you feel better instantly

COFFEE

-need I say more? “one venti triple espresso latte please”

coffee

GET MOVING

-it may be in your best interest to get out, grab coffee, brunch or head to the mall

-put on a comfy, lazy outfit, may I suggest leggings, oversized tee and a blanket scarf

-if you’re still feeling like hangover city is winning, then rock a red lip, instant perk up in in your mood and state of mind

Visit Casper’s blog to see their guide on getting rid of your hangover and find some funny GIFs! ALSO, tomorrow is National Margarita Day (Feb 22) so you will definitely need to keep these tips in mind while you are salsa-ing and sipping margaritas. I hope you enjoyed my guide and let me know what you always do when you’re struck with a horrible hangover!

Cold Weather Essentials

Who the heck is El Nino? I have never heard of him until recently, when we all thought we were going to have a warm winter. Hah! What a joke that was. It was been getting colder and colder by the day. I wanted to share some of my cold weather essentials, because I have noticed the items in my purse/car have changed, along with what I wear.

First and foremost, my ultimate essentials are lip blam (vaseline or Blistex), hand moisturizer (Eos one smells amazing) and mittens. I cannot leave the house without these three. Morning and night I am finally starting to moisturize my face, very important because my skin is getting very dry atm. I had to put tissues in there because, snot…lol. Clothing wise, thick socks, scarf, hat and turtlenecks are a must. Do not hate on the Uggs, okay? For the days when I’m just getting gas, coffee or running errands, they keep my toes toasty and are very comfy. Cold Weather Essentials

New Years Inspiration

New Years equals sparkles, glitter and sequins. There can’t be one outfit or makeup look without one of those three. I wanted to share some of my favourites for New Years, from makeup, to shoes to accessories. I hope you get some inspiration, because if you’re like me and have no clue what to wear or what makeup look to do, then you will need some inspiration.

Have a safe and Happy New Years!
