ISSA NEW ME: Plant-Based Lilly

Boi oh Boi have I got some news to share. If you care anyway. Well I hope you care because I’m going to talk about my new lifestyle changes to improve my health, mind and body! Not only do these changes help me, they help the environment and the animals. If you haven’t guessed by now then please think a little harder. I have gone plant-based!! At first I was just dairy-free, sugar free and processed food free. This started out as a way to improve my skin and health as I went off birth control. But all the Netflix documentaries got to me and I had to do more. I was eating fish and some chicken and eggs for like the first month but yet again all the documentaries had me realizing I just didn’t need anything from animals. I was wondering to myself, can I actually be plant-based/vegan for the rest of my life, is it worth missing out on drinking iced capps or eating dairy queen blizzards. I can tell you IT IS WORTH IT. I always felt like going vegan would mean I’m missing out on all good food, like I wouldn’t be able to go out with friends and eat, like I would just be sat at home eating salads. Life right now is pretty far from that. Once I was plant-based for a month I had felt like I’ve been this way my whole life. It just felt natural. It felt like I was doing right by my body, Right by the planet I live on and right by the animals that were here before me. So that is kind of the backstory slash what’s going on right now.

So what am I actually doing differently than before? See below!!!

Eating Plant-Based Whole Foods: 

I eat vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, seeds, nuts, etc. Basically I don’t eat ANYTHING that comes from animals. Yes, no cheese, no milk, no eggs, NU-THING. Additionally, I rarely eat processed foods or eat out. I try to limit my processed sugar intake to basically none but you know a sweet treat here or there doesn’t hurt (vegan of course). For oils, I only cook with coconut oil, EVOO or avocado oil. I also try to limit my hydrogenated oils, these are mostly in some snacks or processed foods but now a days there are plenty of healthy options.

Taking Vitamins and Supplements: 

Digestive Bitters, Probiotic, Multi-Vitamin, D-Drops, Spirulina, Magnesium. That’s what I take on the daily because I eat a lot of the Vitamins and Minerals I need! I used to take Collagen and Krill oil for the first month I changed my lifestyle but when I went full plant-based I decided to stop taking those two since they come from animals. Currently being shipped to me is the Halo Beauty vitamin which is vegan so I’m excited for that.

Using Less Waste:

Once I stopped eating animals I figured there was more for me to do for the planet. And using less plastic seemed like a good way to help. At the grocery store, I don’t put any loose vegetables or fruits in plastic, its pointless because I wash them. I use stainless steel straws instead of plastic ones (It takes 500 years for one plastic straw to dissolve. Gross. How many do you use in one day?). Always, always use re-usable bags when grocery shopping. There is still a lot I can do in this area, but small steps for now. My goals are to stop using plastic from groceries completely, stop using plastic takeaway coffee cups, use re-usable bags when going shopping at the mall and I’ll learn some more along the way!

That’s about it for now, I didn’t want to go into too much detail because I can write separate posts on all the info above. I really do feel like I’m making a difference and I’m treating my body right. People ask how my diet is going or they ask if I miss certain foods. Yea of course I miss certain foods but I don’t need them anymore. There really is a plant-based alternative to every animal food out there! I’ve always wanted to do something more, to make a difference in the bigger picture and I truly feel like I am with this.

My Other Goals:

  • Stop wearing animals, I need to get rid of any leather goods I have. I think I only have few shoes that are leather and a couple bags so before I start name calling myself a hypocrite I need to get rid of them!
  • Start buying strictly cruelty-free makeup and skincare brands, also natural ingredient ones!
  • Go to a farm sanctuary!
  • Recycle better
  • Educate and inspire others to make a difference
